Acupuncture is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, design to re-establish the body’s natural flow of energy, relieve emotional and physical blocks and stimulate the immune and hormonal systems. Hair thin needles are applied to specific points on the body which effectively remove blocks and boost the body’s inherent ability to heal itself.
Based on the principles of oriental medicine, acupuncture works by stimulating and promoting the body’s inherent healing abilities. Acupuncture is effective in treating many common ailments.
Modern science is beginning to verify what acupuncturists have known for thousand of years, that acupuncture regulates the nervous system, the hormonal (endocrine) system as well as boosting the immune system and bringing them back into balance. Increasingly, acupuncture is recognized as a complementary therapy to augment Western medical practices.
Hair thin needles are used on different parts of the body to reestablish the flow of energy, relieve emotional and physical stagnation, and stimulate the immune and endocrine systems.
Acupuncture and Tuina massage accesses the body at a different level, using both together enhances the effectiveness of each, resulting in a more complete treatment.
Massage leaves the body relaxed and more receptive, which makes the acupuncture more powerful. In turn the more blockages the acupuncture dissolves, the more the body relaxes. This re-established flow builds a spiral of life-enhancing and long-term benefits
Tuina massage stimulates the flow of qi to promote balance and harmony within the body using many of the same principles of acupuncture. During a session, practitioners use oscillating and pressure techniques that differ in force and speed. Tuina massage can be done as a stronger deep-tissue massage or a more gentle, energetic treatment.
It’s similar to acupuncture in the way it targets specific acupoints, but practitioners use fingers instead of needles to apply pressure to stimulate these points. Tuina massage is often used in combination with acupuncture.

The other modality is cupping. One way to think about cupping is that it is the inverse of massage. Rather than applying pressure to muscles, the suction uses pressure to pull skin, tissue and muscles upward. It enhances circulation, helps relieve pain and pulls out the pathogens that linger in your body’s tissues

Gua sha is a natural, alternative therapy that involves scraping your skin with a massage tool to improve your circulation. This ancient Chinese healing technique may offer a unique approach to better health, addressing issues like chronic pain.
Gua sha may reduce inflammation, so it’s often used to treat ailments that cause chronic pain, such as arthritis and fibromyalgia, as well as those that trigger muscle and joint pain.

In auriculotherapy, the ear is seen as a microcosm of the entire body. By stimulating specific points on the ear, such as with ear seeds, corresponding areas of the body and organs can be affected.
Ear seeds can be used alone or in conjunction with acupuncture and has been shown to have significant positive effects on psychological distress, drug and alcohol use, and cravings. Other common uses of ear seeds are to help patients with alleviating stress, losing weight, quitting smoking, and much more. Once applied, the ear seeds stimulate specific points through light pressure over time. And because the seeds are worn home, patients can also stimulate the points themselves by massaging the ear seeds when they feel like they need an extra boost.

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture (Cosmetic Acupuncture)
In traditional Chinese medicine, health of the skin (containing blood and lymphatic vessels, nerves, oil, and sweat glands) largely depends on the health of the whole body and proper functioning of the internal organs. Acupuncture initiates the body’s ability to heal itself by addressing the underlying causes of aging.
Like every regular acupuncture session, facial rejuvenation treatment requires an initial assessment in order for the practitioner to formulate an individual plan of treatment.

Benefits of Facial Rejuvenation
Rejuvenation of the skin is associated with increased Qi and blood circulation in the facial tissue which oxygenates and therefore speeds its detoxification, and stimulates collagen and elastin production. This safe acupuncture face-lift can be used to: eliminate fine lines on the face and substantially minimize frown lines; reduce sagging of the skin (double-chin, puffy eyes, drooping eyelids) by strengthening the facial muscles; improve facial complexion; improve vision and brighten the eyes.

Each treatment begins with gentle facial cupping or Gua Sha to distribute blood and nutrients throughout the face. This is followed by tiny facial needles that are used to focus repair into the weakened lines of the face and whole body acupuncture to focus on the underlying imbalances that have contributed to visible signs of aging.
You will leave feeling amazing and your skin will be glowing! Individuals notice visible improvements after about 3 treatments, however lasting results tend to come after a 10-12 treatment course that need only be repeated every 2-5 years. For maximum effectiveness, the first six sessions should be performed at least twice a week; the remaining sessions should be spaced apart no longer than 5 - 7 days.
Facial rejuvenation acupuncture is not a replacement for plastic surgery and individual results vary depending on a person’s state of health, age, and lifestyle. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of this safe alternative is unquestionable.
In some cases, facial rejuvenation acupuncture is contraindicated; these cases include:
• Pregnancy
• Pacemakers
• Abnormal coagulation
• High blood pressure
• Migraine headaches
• Former plastic surgery

Dionna is off on maternity leave please check back in November for an update. Feel free to contact her at dionna.read.rmt@gmail.com for referrals and recommendations.

My name is Dionna Eng. I have over 15 years of experience, primarily in multi-disciplinary clinics. Years of playing competitive soccer gave me a keen interest in body mechanics and how it affects performance. I found massage therapy after suffering a sports injury. I was treated by an excellent therapist who not only got me back in the game just in time for playoffs, but also inspired me.

Are you exploring massage therapy because you suffered an injury? Are you an athlete needing pre-event preparation, post event recovery or rehabilitation? Have you become pregnant with unfamiliar pain in your lower back, buttocks or lower limbs? Are you experiencing jaw pain or headaches? Do you notice that your golf swing isn’t the same as it used to be? Maybe you have numbness and tingling into your arms and hands. Do you feel like your step is uneven when you walk? I can help you with all of these and more.

My practice includes firm pressure to specific locations or a lighter touch when needed. I listen and evaluate. It’s important to me that you get the results you are seeking. I’m interested in the story your body tells, how I can help facilitate your healing and put you on the path to wellness.

If you have any further questions about my professional background and skills/courses taken I would be happy to receive your emails at orleansmassagecentre@rogers.com and provide you with more information and education regarding your body in your following visits. Use email or phone: 613-841-2917 to book with any of our practitioners.
